Playoffs IPL 2017 Current Situation (Post Match 52)
Mumbai Indians:

With 18 points Mumbai Indians tops the chart, it is the only team to secure its position in play-offs

The Battle for top-two positions:

Mumbai Indians are certainly lined up for finishing in top-two.

However, if in their last outing against KKR, a defeat will displace them from their top position. Then they will be qualifying as number two team of the league matches.

Other competitors like Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kings XI Punjab cannot beat Mumbai Indians on points. So, Mumbai Indians are entering the playoffs as either 1st or 2nd position.

Kolkata Knight Riders:

With their 8 wins from the league matches and a healthy NRR of +.0729. KKR are almost in the play-offs. If SH lose to Gujarat Lions today, KKR will be through to the Playoffs, with Rising Pune Supergiant irrespective of other results.

If, Hyderabad wins today and KKR loses to MI, even then they will remain ahead of RPS, who have a NRR of -0.083.
KKR will only increase their problems if they loses to MI by more than 200 runs.

For top-two finish:

Winning handsomely against MI, KKR will dethrone MI’s number one tag and will enter to playoffs as topper.

If KKR loses against MI, then they can end up at number two if SH lose to Gujrat and KXIP narrowly wins against RPS. Such condition shall produce three teams with 16 points and KKR will finish at two because of better NRR.

Sunrisers Hyderabad:

The best way to qualify for SH will be to defeat Gujrat Lions. Irrespective of other results, they will qualify with 17 points. If Sunrisers lose today, they will need RPS to beat KXIP for qualifying.

For top-two finish:

After today’s win, SH will follow MI at second spot with their 17 points. To remain at number two SH will be looking a KKR defeat against MI.

Rising Pune Supergiant:

For qualifying:

RPS straight walk to playoffs will be decided if Sunrisers lose today. If, however, Sunrisers wins today, then RPS will need to beat KXIP in their final league match to qualify.

For Top-two finish:

To finish in top-two, RPS will need that KKR lose to MI tonight and RPS beat KXIP. Such a result will leave RPS with 18 points, behind MI (20). If KKR beat MI and RPS beat KXIP, then three teams – MI, KKR and RPS will tie on 18 points each. RPS will only lose out because of their inferior NRR.

Kings XI Punjab:

For qualifying:

KXIP need to beat RPS in their last league match to qualify for the Playoffs. This will give them 16 points and will equal to RPS, but KXIP will go through because of their NRR.

For Top-two finish:

If Sunrisers lose to GL today and MI give a giant defeat to KKR and then KXIP beat RPS by a big margin, KXIP can finish in top-two.

Gujarat Lions, Delhi Daredevils and Royal Challengers Bangalore are all-out of the Playoffs IPL 2017 race.
